Information We Collect
We collect the following data depending on how you use the site:
- Anonymous usage data — pages visited, session duration, device type, collected via Google Analytics. Legal basis: consent (EU users) or legitimate interest (non-EU users).
- Advertising data — Google AdSense may set cookies to serve personalised ads. Legal basis: consent (EU users).
- Account data (optional) — if you sign in to the leaderboard using Google Sign-In, we receive your Google display name, email address, and profile photo via Firebase Authentication. This data is used solely to identify your leaderboard entry. Legal basis: consent (you initiate sign-in).
If you do not sign in, we do not collect your name or email address.
Data Retention
- Google Analytics — data is retained for 14 months per Google's default setting.
- Leaderboard (Firebase) — your display name and score are stored until you delete your account or request removal.
- Local storage — game preferences (theme, streak, consent) are stored in your browser until you clear browser data.
Cookies and Tracking
FlipWord uses cookies for: (1) Google Analytics traffic analysis, (2) Google AdSense personalised advertising, and (3) storing your game preferences locally. EU users are shown a consent banner on first visit. You can change your choice at any time via the Cookie Settings link in the footer.
Local Storage
Game preferences (dark/light theme, streak data, consent status) are stored in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device.
Advertising
We use Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google and its partners use cookies (including the DoubleClick cookie) to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site or other sites. You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ad Settings or aboutads.info.
